Combining three existing structures into one, the Sunspot restaurant relocation is a gathering hub connecting the UT campus and neighboring communities “Where tie-dyes and neckties unite!” The existing building was completely gutted and restructured to allow for a roof deck overlooking Cumberland Avenue. The exterior pays homage to the restaurant’s name with the bold bright yellow on the existing building united through the gray two-story element. A large kitchen was needed for the extensive menu of Southwestern, Caribbean, and Latin American fare, and two bars provide for plenty of beverage options. Vintage fixtures and seating at the large family-style tables add to the restaurant’s laid-back vibe.
