The client’s vision for Loco Burro was to create a fun yet upscale atmosphere that would elevate and transform their existing concept originating from Gatlinburg, TN. It features a main dining area that caters to a variety of guest preferences, two distinct bar areas that provide ample space for social gatherings, and two fully equipped kitchen areas that ensure efficient food preparation and service. An eye-catching decorative element within the restaurant is a mechanical donkey, which serves as a playful nod to the venue’s thematic inspiration drawn from Mexican culture.

The rooftop deck is meticulously crafted to reflect the charm of a Spanish-style villa, offering breathtaking views and an inviting ambiance that presents unique design opportunities that can enhance the overall dining experience. This ambitious project showcased a collaborative effort, involving The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry, who played a crucial role in the interior design and furniture selection process. Meanwhile, R2R took charge of the exterior design, construction documentation, and staging services, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing environment.

The project faced unique challenges, particularly in coordinating efforts among multiple teams while navigating the complexities of material availability during the COVID-19 pandemic. These challenges required adaptable and innovative solutions to maintain the project’s timeline and quality. Among the notable features of Loco Burro are a donkey-themed art gallery that showcases various artistic interpretations, custom lighting fixtures that add to the establishment’s ambiance, and an array of artwork and signage that further enrich the overall atmosphere. The handcrafted millwork adds a touch of elegance to the interior.

The exterior of Loco Burro is distinguished by a unique brick pattern that not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also provides a warm and inviting feel. Fire pits and water features are strategically integrated into the design, creating cozy gathering spots for patrons. The vibrant Tex-Mex color palette employed throughout the venue rounds out the design, ensuring a visually stimulating environment that elevates the experience for VIP guests and casual diners alike.
