R2R studio came to a point where we had outgrown our space which allowed us to consider growing into a vision that had been on the drafting board for many years. At R2R studio, we pride ourselves in offering a holistic design to each project we work on. However, our studio didn’t fully embody that vision in our work environment. Therefore, a task was set before us.

Being both the client and the designer brings a unique set of challenges. Understanding how we use our space and what changes we needed to improve our workflow brought very specific design challenges that needed to be solved. Every decision we made was specific and intentional. Just like our other projects, we designed each corner with the end user in mind– which in this case was our team!  The goal was to create an environment that felt flexible, inspiring, and open to collaborate across the office.

The design of the office space was inspired by Scandinavian style with a focus on light colors to allow the space to feel comfortable, open, and collaborative.  Each workstation allows ample flexibility to sketch, draft or research. The workstations are organized to pair teams together and provide a shared environment that fosters inspiration, enhances productivity, and generates an energetic workflow.

From the moment you ascend the stairway, you are greeted with a hot-rolled steel wall art featuring the R2R studio logo laser cut.

A major design move we made included moving the Material’s Library up into the studio. Framed with a transparent glass partition, we wanted the library to feel inviting to our staff and our clients. Many internal meetings and formal client meetings are held in the space to allow a physical connection to the work that is created in our studio. Priding ourselves on being a holistic design studio, the connection of the Material’s Library to our work environment was essential. We encourage everyone to make use of the space, whether for selecting finishes, hashing out a design charrette or hosting a meeting.

The most unique space in the renovation is the area deemed the “Living Room” which includes lounge seating, a media cart inclusive of a tv, and a large decorative acoustical ceiling fixture that creates an intimate and informal sitting area.
