Tucked into a quiet, wooded property, this custom residence reinterprets the traditional cabin through a modern lens. A stacked stone chimney and gabled form speak to the vernacular, while bold architectural moves—like a cantilevered flat roof over the entry porch—introduce a contemporary edge. Clad in dark grey painted brick with black-framed windows, the home is both striking and subtle, merging effortlessly with its forested surroundings.
The exterior detailing continues this balance of old and new. The simple form and strong horizontal lines give the home a grounded feel, while large glass openings and a restrained material palette express a quiet modernity. Expansive porches and balconies on both levels emphasize indoor-outdoor living and provide sweeping views of woods beyond.

Inside, the home is equally thoughtful in its composition. The main level features an open living, dining, and kitchen area organized around large sliding glass doors that lead to a covered balcony. A secondary kitchen is tucked behind the main space, providing functionality without interruption. The screened porch with a stone fireplace extends from the living room, offering a protected outdoor retreat in all seasons. The primary suite includes a private balcony and generous views. Upstairs, three bedrooms are tucked under the roofline, each with a dormer that brings in natural light while preserving the home’s low-slung profile on the exterior.
Interior materials reflect the home’s wooded context, with dark wood flooring, white walls, and rich wood accent panels contributing to a warm yet minimal palette. Throughout the home, natural light and long views are prioritized through large expanses of glass and open circulation. On the lower level, a family room spills out onto a landscaped side yard, while an additional flex room is tucked away for privacy. A three-car garage completes the lower level and is seamlessly integrated into the overall form.
In 2019, the client returned with a request for a new pool house to expand their outdoor living experience. The design for this addition sought to extend the character of the original residence, creating a seamless architectural transition. A series of flat roof canopies now connect the main home to the pool house, leading through a covered porch with a poolside bar and outdoor seating area. A secluded outdoor shower enhances the retreat-like quality of the space, while thoughtful site planning ensured a cohesive relationship between the house, pool, and new structure.
The pool house continues the original palette with dark grey lap siding and rich wood accents behind the pool bar. Inside, it provides dedicated space for a bathroom, changing area, and pool equipment storage. Together, the house and pool house form a unified ensemble that reflects the client’s vision—a quiet, modern retreat that honors its wooded setting with warmth, simplicity, and an enduring connection to nature.
