The Brand Development Studio shares the same philosophy as all of R2R studio: that great design and execution come from an open environment embracing learning, collaboration, and communication at every stage. We serve as a comprehensive partner, from the earliest days of developing the concept through the permitting and construction phases.
Each time a client comes to us with either a franchise or corporate-owned concept, we have a fresh opportunity to help someone’s vision become a successful brand. It is this role as a conduit for the client’s vision that defines the Brand Development Studio. We use our highly refined process and years of experience to translate those aspirations into something more tangible—a Brand Design Package that establishes a consistent, flexible, detailed plan for new locations.

Types of Brand Development
While brands vary a great deal, they fall into two major categories for the purpose of concept development: corporate-owned concepts and franchise concepts. Each has its own strengths and challenges, and we enjoy the opportunities of working with both.
Corporate-Owned Concept Development
Corporate-owned brands expand by building their own locations rather than relying on franchisees. This places the burden of funding the expansion on the owner, but allows them to maintain more control over both brand standards and operating policies.
Franchise Concept Development
Franchised brands expand by selling rights to operate brand locations to entrepreneurs in exchange for a percentage of each location’s sales. Because the burden of the financing is on the franchisee, this type of brand is able to grow more quickly—but in order to do so, owners must be able to find suitable franchisees.
In order to encompass the entire franchise process, we partner with experienced franchise consultants, such as FranSource, to ensure that all facets of the legal and business development are completed successfully. Our brand development services (or design services) are then integrated into the overall franchise concept development.
The Brand Development Process
Broadly, our brand development process consists of three main stages:
- The evaluation and analysis of the concept
- The development of the concept’s design standards
- The implementation of the design standards
As a result of this process, the client receives a detailed Brand Design Package with everything necessary to implement the brand concept at new locations, including but not limited to design elements, furnishings, and equipment selections.
Like all of our processes at R2R studio, the brand development process is an ongoing conversation between our team of experts and the client. Transparency and cooperation are essential because developing a brand for a corporate-owned or franchise concept is complicated, detailed work. That’s why we make such an effort to keep the communication flowing not only at the outset of a project, but all the way through to completion.
